You don’t care about yourself, either. Or humanity in general. The environment can go fuck itself, as far as you’re concerned. The creative process?? You’ve never enjoyed a movie a book a show a song in your life. Critical thinking?? You’ve never heard of her.
To paraphrase an oft-used quote, I can’t make you understand why you should care about other people. I can’t even make you see how this shit affects you too—and, GURL, it does.
But you never see the correlation.
So for this moment, this purpose, this blog post, I’m addressing the people who say they care about me.
You don’t. Not if you use AI.
And why would you care about me? Why would you even be reading this (you’re probably not!)? I’m not a New York Times bestseller. My writing has never so much as gone viral. So how embarrassing for you it would be, to like or share or at all engage with my posts.
It’s just a click, a second, and you’ve done more than that to support Chatgpt. But a human being???? Who’s doing the work??? And trying to find their audience??? A person you say you love??? Who has impressed the importance of a like, a comment, a share to your Instagram story??? Literally any acknowledgment that you’re in their corner??? That you care???
No. Of course not. The sheer humiliation you would face, if you publicly supported someone who isn’t already a pop culture smash.
Nooooooo, showing up for a purported loved one would reflect poorly on your social media standing.
Somehow.
And yet there you are, engaging with AI bullshit that only exists because it’s stolen from artists and writers, regardless of their “success.” It’s depleting our water and draining our resources, but what does that have to do with you, and at least you have a basic-ass avatar and an event flyer that looks like everyone else’s.
At least you know what you’d look like as a cartoon, thank God, WHERE would we BE without this INNOVATIVE and NECESSARY technology???? Paying for caricatures in the park that don’t have any effect on our clean drinking water that we need to live????
Why would we compensate artists for their time and energy and supplies, when we can get something worse in exchange for the fleeting validation of our starving egos???
Christ. Get a therapist.
Am I going to provide sources for any of this? L-O-L. Nah. NOPE They’re readily available and I’m not a search engine; this is simply a rant so I can get this shit outta my head and go to bed. It’s time for you to exercise those short-circuited skills in independent thinking, to take thirty seconds to goddamn learn something.
(If you’re using Google to research, you can add “-ai” to your searches to eliminate that dumbshit overview and similar non-sources.)
You have been told, over and over again, that AI hurts creatives, the environment, and your ability to think for yourself. At best, it makes you look rude and lazy and unprofessional (at worst, you don’t just look it, you are those things). It strips away social skills and human connection. It’s not even doing well—AI needs billions of dollars to keep going—but you’re still kneeling at the altar of not having to write your own emails.
Hot diggity dog, and I’m the family’s cautionary tale???
(And maybe I’m projecting there, but… Well. That’s something for me to discuss in therapy.)
Y’all think I’m embarrassing for self-publishing and solo marketing my books, meanwhile you can’t choose a font for your Facebook post.
Be so for real, guys. I’d rather be a cringey try-hard who’s doing what they want on their own merits, than a tech bro bootlicker so desperate to follow trends that I don’t know how to talk to people anymore.
AI’s not in it for the long haul. And the relationships you’re sacrificing in exchange for plagiarized art and impersonal communication aren’t gonna wait around for you, either.
Figure your shit out, man. Read 1984, I dunno, it’s all pretty straightforward—aaaaaand it’s four A.M. and I gotta cap this somewhere, so:
Fuck AI, stop using it, you don’t need it, you’re just being a dumbass for no reason, and we all have enough problems without you being this willfully ignorant too, sayonara for now—
